Lady Spartans to Host Region XIII Tournament

It took five sets in Worthington on Saturday afternoon, but the M State lady Spartans secured home court advantage for the Region XIII Tournament after defeating Minnesota West 3-2 (25-12, 25-27, 23-25, 25-13, 15-5).  M State will now host the Region XIII Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Fergus Falls.

Kaia Strom distributed 41 set assists, had 6 ace serves, delivered 7 kills and came up with 19 digs to lead M State in the victory.  Bailey Marty continued her excellent defensive play at libero with 42 digs, while serving up 3 aces.  Anya Maack was dominant at the net with 11 kills and 9 blocks and Alaina Anderson contributed 11 kills and 5 blocks.  Brooke Hovland and Emily Dehler had 9 kills each and Emily Condon added 6 kills, 17 digs and 3 ace serves.

Top servers were Avery Wanner (19/19 2 aces), Condon (23/24), Marty (24/26), Strom (17/20), Jayna Gronewold (11/12) and Anderson (10/11).

M State started an important weekend road trip with a 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20) victory over Riverland on Friday night in MCAC Volleyball action.

Leaders on Friday night were Anya Maack (15 kills, 5 blocks), Emily Dehler (11 kills, 2 blocks), Emily Condon (7 kills, 18 digs), Brooke Hovland (4 kills, 4 blocks), Bailey Marty (45 digs, 16/16 serving, 3 aces), Kaia Strom (23/25 serving, 4 aces, 10 digs, 37 set assists), Alaina Anderson (6 kills, 1 block, 8/10 serving, 2 aces), Jayna Gronewold (10/12 serving, 8 digs) and Avery Wanner (15/15 serving, 2 aces, 6 digs).

The winner of the tournament advances to the NJCAA DIII Championship (November 11-13).
