The Minnesota State Spartans got off to a slow start which the Fond du Lac Thunder took advantage of to race out to an early 9-point first half lead. The Spartans struggled to put the ball into the basket and were having a hard time matching the pace of the Thunder offense. M-State went to their reserves early and received significant results led by Krosby Aasness and Alex Dawson. Aasness tallied ten points and Dawson scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds in the half to help Minnesota State take a 31-24 lead at the intermission.

Minnesota State lost its second consecutive game on Saturday by losing to Mesabi Range 84-82. The game was back and forth with the majority of the game being no larger than a five-point lead. It didn’t look that way early on as the Spartans raced out to an early 11-2 lead. However, Mesabi had a 7-1 run of its own to close it to 12-9 and eventually took the lead. The score was tied at the half 31-31 with Foday Sheriff scoring 11 of his 17 points in the first. Noel Kabange also scored 20 points with half of them coming at intermission.
