Nationally Ranked Minnesota West Women Place 6 in Double Figures to Defeat Lady Spartans
Nationally ranked Minnesota West reached the century mark on Wednesday night, placing six players in double figures as they recorded a 100-51 victory over the M State lady Spartans in Worthington. The Blue Jays shot 51% (36-71) from the field, 38% (11-29) on 3’s, and 85% (17-20) from the free throw line. They also capitalized on effective pressure defense, forcing 46 turnovers.

After taking a 19-18 led after one quarter, Minnesota West turned in a dominant second quarter, outscoring the lady Spartans 36-4 to open up a 55-22 halftime lead. The third quarter was much more competitive as the lead only grew by three points and the two teams went into the final 10 minutes with Minnesota West holding a 79-43 lead. A 21-8 fourth quarter led to the final of 100-51.
"We played great in the first and third quarters against this nationally ranked team," commented M State head coach Jodi Holleman.
Leading the way for the Blue Jays were Sadie Krahling (18 points, 7 steals), Izzy Klumper (17 points, 4 rebounds), Maddie Kamm (12 points, 6 assists, 7 steals), Katrina Schutz (12 points, 6 rebounds), Ayla Texley (12 points, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Payton Riemers (11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists). Katelyn Frodermann chipped in with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. As a team Minnesota West recorded 26 steals and distributed 24 assists.
The Spartans were paced by Terri Wind (17 points, 5 rebounds), Kiara Goggleye (15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 7 steals), Taylor Dingwall (8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Kaitlyn Olson (8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals). Kaylee Robinson dished out a game high 8 assists and also pulled down 5 boards.
M State had an overall field goal percentage of 39.6% (19-48), while shooting 37.5% (3-8) from 3-point range and sinking 10-of-19 (52.6%) free throws.
The lady Spartans (6-7, 0-1 MCAC South) will host Riverland at 1:00pm Saturday in Fergus Falls.
