Lady Spartans Fall to Hot Shooting Rochester Team
After falling behind 40-18 at the half, the M State Women’s Basketball team settled down and played a much more competitive second half, being outscored 37-28 in their 77-46 loss at Rochester on Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 40-18 at the half, the M State Women's Basketball team settled down and played a much more competitive second half, being outscored 37-28 in their 77-46 loss at Rochester on Saturday afternoon. Rochester was hot from 3-point range, making 10-of-22 (45.5%) and shot 51% (28-55) overall. M State made only 1-of-15 shots from 3-point range and shot just 29.8% (14-47) overall.
Janae Bennett came off the bench to hit 8-of-9 field goal attempts, including all 5 of her 3's, finishing with a game high 21 points. Macaya Copeland and Jada James had 12 points each. James completed a double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds. Aniyah Reuben contributed 11 points. Sophie Andring dished out a team high 5 assists. Copeland and Cassidy Shute had 4 assists apiece.
Fergus Falls received 10 points each from Jayna Gronewold and Itzel Salazar. Salazar made all six of her free throws and led the Spartans with 4 assists and 4 steals. The lady Spartans had success on the line, making 17-of-19 free throws. They did struggle taking care of the ball, turning it over 18 times.
M State (9-6, 3-2 MCAC South) will host St. Cloud Technical and Community College on Wednesday night.
