28-8 Third Quarter Carries Lady Spartans to 68-51 Win Over Rainy River
The M State lady Spartans broke open a close game in the third quarter as they outscored Minnesota North College – Rainy River 28-8 in the quarter to take a 58-33 lead into the fourth quarter. M State went on to post a 68-51 victory at the Central Lakes Classic in Brainerd, improving their season record to 5-4.

Jayna Gronewold led four players in double figures for the lady Spartans, scoring 22 points. Mo Bugbee added 19, Madi Foss had 11 and Mia Blaskowski finished with 10. Foss snared 16 rebounds, eight of them on the offensive boards, to complete her double-double, and Bugbee had 7 rebounds, 6 of them coming on the offensive end. Overall, M State won the rebounding battle 42-30. Gronewold led the team with 4 assists and 4 steals.
M State shot 37% (23-62) from the field, but struggled from the 3-point line, making only 1 of 12 3's. They were exceptional on the free throw line, going 21-for-24 (87.5%).
Destiny Piekarski led Minnesota North – Rainy River with a double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds). They shot 33.3% (20-60) from the field.
M State will host Sisseton-Wahpeton at 1:00pm Saturday, December 30, as part of the Spartan Classic.
