Lady Spartan Sweep NDSCS
The M State Lady Spartan softball team ran their record to 6-0 with a home doubleheader sweep of the Wildcats from North Dakota State College of Science.
The M State Lady Spartan softball team ran their record to 6-0 with a home doubleheader sweep of the Wildcats from North Dakota State College of Science. Tarryn Justeson pitched a complete game for a 9-2 Lady Spartan win in game one and Doranna Blasyck was very efficient in game two as the Lady Spartans won 15-2 in five innings.
“Two good wins for us today” commented Steve King, head coach of the Lady Spartans. “We were able to add on to our leads and scored a bunch of runs with two outs which always leads to wins. Our defense was very solid again and we ran the bases aggressively. Tarryn and Doranna pitched very well. Hopefully we can carry this over to divisional play which starts Tuesday.”
In game one, NDSCS opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first but the Lady Spartans tied it at 1-1 on an RBI double by Amber Boese. The Spartans went up 2-1 in the bottom of the second on a booming double by Haley Poehler that scored Cailey Bryant. The Wildcats scored a single run in the top of the third before the Lady Spartans took over.
Sophomore Ally Jensen picked up an RBI in the third and Boese drove in two more runs with a single in the fourth to make the score 5-2. The Lady Spartans added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and second, Cailey Bryant laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to over the runners over. Jillen Tenneson followed with an RBI groundout. Poehler and Boese drove in runs with base hits to make the score 9-2.
Tarryn Justeson, a freshman from Valley City, pitched a complete game to pick up the win. She now moves to 4-0 on the season. Amber Boese was 3 for 4 and had 4 runs batted in to lead the offense.
In game two, the Lady Spartans scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Sidney Imsande, Jileen Tenneson, and Sam Lupkes all had runs batted in for a 6-1 Lady Spartan lead after one inning. The Lady Spartans scored another run in the bottom of the third to make the score 7-1 and then put the game out of reach with 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lupkes had an RBI single, Poehler plated two with a double, Doranna Blasyck scored Poehler with a double, Boese singled in Blasyck and Lindsey Dierks capped the scoring off with an RBI single to make the score 15-2.
Sophomore Doranna Blasyck set the Wildcats down in order in the top of the fifth to earn the complete game victory. Doranna is now 2-0 on the season.
The Lady Spartans enter divisional play against a very good Anoka Ramsey Community and Technical College team on Tuesday April 4. The game will be played on the Fergus Falls campus and game times are 3:00 and 5:00.
