Spartan Men Come Up Short in Quest for National Tournament Trip
The M State Men’s Golf Team came up short in their bid to qualify for the NJCAA National Tournament as Southwest Tech put together two solid days on the Jewel Golf Club course in Lake City to claim the Region XIII championship. Southwest Tech had a two day total of 611 (309-302) and the Spartans ended up with a 657 (329-328).

Alex Ruetten of Southwest Tech earned medalist honors with a two-day total of 151 (78-73). Adrian Fillipi led the Spartans on day one with a 77 and Thor Ewan had the low score for M State on day two with a 78. Braden Johnson carded a 79 on day two of the tournament.
"Congrats to Southwest Tech as they have an outstanding team and will represent Region XIII very well in New York," said Spartan head coach Jason Retzlaff. "We gave it our best shot and played well in stretches. Adrian had a great first day, while Thor and Braden really had nice rounds on day two."
Ewan led the Spartans with a two-day total of 159 (81-78), followed by Fillipi with a 160 (77-83), Johnson with a 165 (86-79), Kellen Murray with a 173 (85-88) and Brant Baron with a 182 (86-96).
"I am thankful for the season we had and appreciate all the hard work from our players," added Coach Retzlaff. "It was great to see the improvement throughout the season. We should return many of the players and look forward to next fall."
