Spartans in 5th Position After Round 1 of the National Tournament

Results of Round 1 of the 2022 NJCAA Div. III National Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club (Par 72) in Chautauqua, NY

• M State shoots a first round score of 330 placing them in 5^th place (10 teams) after round 1.
• The round was delayed 3 hours due to rainy conditions.
• Defending champions Sandhills CC led the team competition with a 295.
• Hunter Burnside led the Spartans with a 78 and Grant Inniger fired a 79.
• Andreas Huber of Sandhills CC shot the low round of the day with a 71 (-1).
• The championship is 4 rounds (72 holes) and ends on Friday.

"The weather left a lot to be desired as the first half of our round was wet, windy, and extremely difficult.  Weather improved a bit on the back nine but overall-every team had to grind through the conditions.  I saw a lot of good shots from the Spartans today.  Patience is a virtue in this tournament as a lot can happen in four days. Hunter Burnside had his short game working and I thought Grant Inniger struck the ball very well.  After a day under our belt, we look forward to improvement in the upcoming days. It is great to be back in New York competing with such an tremendous group of young men." - Coach Jason Retzlaff

The Spartans will tee off for round two on Wednesday at 9:10am Eastern Time.
