Spartan Golfers Participate In St. John's Fall Invitational

The Spartan men's golf team took part in a two day inviitational this weekend.  The 22 team-120 player field is the largest field the Spartans have ever competed against in recent history. The first day was played at Greystone GC (Par 72) in Sauk Centre.  The 2nd day was at Blackberry Ridge (Par 71) in Sartell. M State shot 322 on day 1 at Greystone and 333 on day 2 at Blackberry Ridge for a 2 day total of 655.

St. Thomas won the event with a 2 day total of 582 (298 + 284), Gustavus was runner up with a 584.  St. Thomas' Ben Frazzini was the medalist with a score of 140 (72 + 68) Carter Justesen led the Spartans with a pair of 79's for a 158.  Former Spartan All-American Hunter Moen, playing for St. Cloud State, carded a 157 (78 + 79).

Head Coach Jason Retzlaff had these thoughts about the weekend. "While we really struggled this weekend, it was a great event for our team to compete in with 22 teams from top notch 4 year college golf programs. There were so many great players in the field and we learned a lot about playing on two long, wet, and difficult golf courses.  After playing 6 competitive rounds in 9 days, it will be nice to have some time this week to get some practice in before the closing stretch of our fall schedule."

The Spartans will compete next at the Valley City State Invite on October 1st at Maple River GC.
