Spartan Men Beat Rainy River for 5th Straight Win
The M State Men’s Basketball team improved to 9-3 on the year with their fifth straight victory on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls. The Spartans led 37-28 at the half and held on for a 69-65 victory over Minnesota North College – Rainy River. M State shot 39.4% (26-66) overall, but struggled from the 3-point line, going just 6-for-25 (47.8%). They also made only 11-of-23 free throws (47.8%).

James Hamilton had a team high 15 points and added 7 rebounds for the Spartans. Drew Overby contributed 10 points off the bench and Leng Akol finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Ali Shahid scored 8 points and Carter Clark added 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Devon Berg came off the bench to score 8 points.
Rainy River's top scorer was Austin Howe with 17. He also secured 7 rebounds. Talib Mott added 14 points and 8 boards, Samuel Jideofor had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, and Kordell Louis Jean contributed 8 points and 9 rebounds. Romero Cannida had 7 points off the bench.
M State resumes play with their Spartan Classic on Friday, January 2 against Minnesota North College – Itasca. They will host Leech Lake Tribal College on Saturday, January 3.
