Solid Shooting Performance Carries Spartan Men to Victory
Leng Akol sparked the M State Men's Basketball team with a 17 point performance off the bench on Saturday as the Spartans recorded an 89-68 victory over Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range, improving their season record to 3-2. Braylon Baldwin led M State with 22 points, while adding 6 rebounds, and James Hamilton contributed 16 points and 5 boards.

Braylon Baldwin led M State with 22 points, while adding 6 rebounds, and James Hamilton contributed 16 points and 5 boards.
Ty Vig pulled down a team high 14 rebounds as the Spartans held a slim 41-39 advantage on the boards. M State had a good shooting day, making 48.5% (32-66) of their overall shots from the floor and hitting 47.8% (11-23) from 3-point range. Akol was a perfect 3-for-3 from deep.
Mesabi Range was led by Tahje Johnson with 24 points and Jamil Aziz with 14 rebounds. Richard Russell and Paul Chandler were also jn double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Norse only made 22-of-67 shots from the field for 32.8%, while shooting a dismal 13.6% (3-22) from 3-point range.
The Spartans next game is Tuesday night in Thief River Falls against Northland Community and Technical College.
