Spartans Earn Road Split with Mesabi Range
M State split a Saturday double header with Mesabi Range in Virginia, falling 8-5 in the opener and taking game two, 22-0. A five run fifth inning allowed the home team to overcome a 4-2 deficit to take a 7-4 lead in game one, while game two saw the Spartans come alive at the plate, collecting 14 hits in the game.

Evan Lunde went 3-for-4 at the plate in the first game to lead M State. He had a double and pair of singles. Tyson Barthel provided pop in the middle of the lineup with two runs batted in. Brendon Kent came through with two hits in four at bats. Hunter Holti (4.2IP, 7R, 7H, 6K, 4BB) took the loss for M State.
Max Bahr (7IP, 7H, 5R, 3ER, 7K, 3BB) was the winning pitcher for Mesabi Range. Tate Uhon, Elliot Blatz, Eli Olson and Landin Heinlen each had two hits for the Norse.
In the second game, Dalton Heater (4 RBI) and Brendon Kent each collected 3 hits for M State, while Brett Laurin and Cayden Doven (2 RBI) delivered two hits apiece. Barthel drew three walks and as a team the Spartans had 8 free passes in the game. They also played errorless ball in the field. Barthel (5IP, 2H, 0R, 7K, BB) was the winning pitcher.
The Spartans have a home game Wednesday against Minnesota North-Hibbing.
