Spartans Pick Up Three Wins

"This weekend was a great opportunity to get a lot of experiecne on the court before we start our conference matches," commented Head Coach Abby Crowserof the lady Spartans.  "I was pleased that we were able to go 3-1 with our only loss being the Central Lakes, the third ranked team in the nation.  Our best playing of the weekend came in our last match against Northland where we really started getting into our rhythm and played up to our potential.  It was great to see the team finish strong."

The Spartans were able to sweep Rainy River 25-18, 25-8, 25-13 on Friday, led by Sydney Hovland (7 kills, 16 set assists, 17/18 serving, 5 aces), Mia Greenman(15 digs, 12/14 serving, 1 ace), Lexus Noyes (7 digs, 9/10 serving), Alexa Mortenson (8/10 serving, 2 aces, 2 blocks), Megan Dreger (5 kills, 6/7 serving, 2 aces), Hannah Ekse (5 kills) and Katie Merrick (2 blocks).

In the 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23) loss to Central Lakes, M State was led by Hovland (27 set assists, 8 digs, 13/15 serving), Taylor Berndt (12 digs, 10/12 serving, 2 aces), Mortenson (7 kills, 12/14 serving), Greenman (30 digs, 20/20 serving, 3 aces), Dreger (8 digs, 11/11 serving), Noyes (11 digs, 10/11 serving, 1 ace), Ekse (7 kills) and Kassandra Algarate (9 kills).

On Saturday M State recorded 14 service aces in their 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16 win over Itasca.  Leaders were Algarate (5 kills, 2 blocks, 9 digs, 15/16 serving, 4 aces), Hovland (16/16 serving, 2 aces, 34 set assists), Berndt (13/15 serving, 3 aces), Mortenson (7 kills, 17/22 serving, 2 aces), Ekse (12 kills, 5 blocks) Corina Mark (12 digs) and Merrick (2 blocks).

Several individuals contributed to their 3-2 (25-13, 17-25, 25-18, 11-25, 15-9) win over Northland on Saturday.  Hovland (7 kills, 10 digs, 29 set assists, 16/17 serving, 1 ace), Greenman (23 digs, 13/15 serving, 1 ace), Berndt (11 digs, 14/16 serving, 3 aces), Ekse (11 kills, 2 blocks, 12/13 serving), Algarate (20/20 serving, 1 ace), Noyes (10/11 serving) and Merrick (7 kills) led the way.
