The M State volleyball team hosted a playoff game against Minnesota West on Wednesday night in Fergus Falls, posting a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-22) victory over the Lady Jays and qualifying for the Region XIII Tournament as the number four seed. They will open tournament play Friday night against top-seeded St. Cloud Technical College in St. Cloud. Rochester will face Ridgewater in the other semifinal contest.
M State served 94.5% for the match, led by Sheyenne Gunderson (18/18, 12 serving points, 3 aces), Lindsey Dierks (11/11, 1 ace), Claire Mathiesen (9/9) and Lexus Noyes (13/14, 9 serving points, 2 aces.
Gunderson distributed 24 set assists and came up with 18 digs. Mathiesen had a team high 20 digs and Dierks added 16 digs.
"We played consistently well tonight and it's a good way to head into the Regional Tournament on Friday," said M State Head Coach Abby Crowser. "Tonight we proved that we should be the team that goes on to Regionals. We are excited to have the opportunity to keep our season going and are determined to do everything possible to be successful. We are looking forward to what this weekend will bring."
