Lady Spartans Finish the Season with a Split

The M State lady Spartans are unsure of their post season fate after splitting a pair of Southern Division road matches over the weekend.  M State lost at Rochester 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22) on Friday and then beat Western Wisconsin Tech 3-0 (25-9,2 5-11, 25-16) on Saturday.

Leaders in the loss to Rochester were Sheyenne Gunderson (13/13 serving, 2 aces, 2 blocks, 14 digs, 35 set assists), Kassandra Algarate (16/17 serving, 9 serving points, 8 kills, 16 digs), Lindsey Dierks (15/15 serving, 1 ace, 6 serving points, 11 kills, 2 blocks, 17 digs), Claire Mathiesen (12/12 serving, 21 digs), Katie Merrick (12/13 serving, 4 blocks), Lexus Noyes (12/13 serving, 11 digs), Mackenzie Swanson (12 kills, 5 blocks) and Ashlyn Hendrickson (3 blocks).

The Spartans served up 12 aces in their sweep of Western Tech and were led by Algarate (17/18 serving, 13 serving points, 4 aces, 8 kills, 13 digs), Merrick (13/13 serving, 10 serving points, 2 aces, 5 kills, 2 blocks), Noyes (14/14 serving, 10 serving points, 3 aces), Dierks (9/9 serving, 1 ace, 7 kills, 18 digs), Mathiesen (10/10 serving, 1 ace, 9 digs), Swanson (9 kills) and Gunderson (7/9 serving, 1 ace, 25 set assists).

"There is a tie between Minnesota West and us and the tie breaking procedure is somewhat unclear," stated M State Head Coach Abby Crowser.  "What will most likely happen is there will be a game between Minnesota West and us to determine who gets the fourth seed and proceeds to the Regional Tournament.  The day and site of that game is still being figured out."
