The M State volleyball team hosted a strong NDSCS squad on Monday night and fell to the Wildcats in three sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17.
"We had a hard time getting our momentum going in the first set, and unfortunately never settled into our rhythm," said head volleyball coach Abby Crowser. "We have been dealing with some injuries and illnesses the past few weeks and it was apparent in the match how much it has affected our players. The good news is there is still a lot of season left and we will hopefully be able to recover and get back on track in order to finish strong."
Leaders for M State were Sheyenne Gunderson (14 set assists), Claire Mathiesen (8 digs, 2 ace serves), Lexus Noyes (7 digs), Lindsey Dierks (7 kills, 6 digs, 2 blocks), Kassandra Algarate (5 kills, 5 digs, 3 ace serves), Katie Merrick (3 blocks, 3 kills) and Mackenzie Swanson (2 blocks).
Top servers were Dierks (11/11), Noyes (10/10), Algarate (12/14) and Mathiesen (8/9).
The lady Spartans will participate in the MCAC Crossover Tournametn on Thursday and Friday at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids. They will square off against Northern Division teams Central Lakes, Mesabi Range, Northland and Hibbing.
