The M State Spartans won their fourth straight MCAC Southern Division match on Wednesday night when they handed the St. Cloud Technical College Cyclones a 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22) loss in Fergus Falls.
"Tonight's win was possible because everyone contributed and stepped up when we needed it most," said head volleyball coach Abby Crowser. "Our main focus before the game was to view tonight as a great opportunity. We knew it would be good competition playing the #4 ranked team in the nation and we knew that we had the chance to make a statement about what our team is capable of doing. Even when our setter got injured late in the fourth set, we were able to adapt, make adjustments and not let it negatively affect us. I'm very proud of what this team accomplished tonight and we will continue to work towards improving every day to be the best team that we can be."
Leaders for M State were Kassandra Algarate (12/14 serving, 15 kills, 15 digs), Mackenzie Swanson (14 kills, 7 digs, 16/17 serving), Lindsey Dierks (16/16 serving, 9 kills, 9 digs), Claire Mathiesen (17/17 serving, 21 digs), Lexus Noyes (10/10 serving, 18 digs) and Sheyenne Gunderson (11 digs, 37 set assists, 22/22 serving, 4 ace serves).
As a team M State served 95.9% (93/97).
The Lady Spartans are now 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the MCAC South. They will host the Concordia JV team on Friday at 6:30pm.
