The M State volleyball team traveled to Willmar on Wednesday night where they knocked off nationally ranked Ridgewater in five sets, 20-25, 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 15-12.
"I'm very happy with how the team pulled together to seal the win tonight," said head coach Abby Crowser. "Even during high pressure situations, we were able to stay positive and focused and that gave us the edge. Our goal tonight was to do whatever it took to help each other succeed and we did just that. If we can maintain that mentality, we will continue to do good things."
The Spartans served 94.2% (98/104) as a team, being led by Lindsey Dierks (23/23, 1 ace), Sheyenne Gunderson (17/17, 2 aces), Claire Mathiesen (9/9), Lexus Noyes (15/16, 1 ace), Mackenzie Swanson (15/17, 4 aces) and Kassandra Algarate (19/22, 3 aces).
Dierks and Swanson led the attack at the net with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while Swanson (6) and Ashlyn Hendrickson (4) led the team in blocks. Gunderson distributed 28 set assists. Dierks had 22 digs, Mathiesen had 19 and Algarate had a dozen.
M State (7-6) will host Minnesota West at 6:30pm on Friday and Riverland at noon on Saturday in Fergus Falls.
