The M State Women's basketball team jumped out to a 25-2 lead over Sisseton-Wahpeton on Wednesday night and never looked back. The Spartans took a 34-11 lead into half and went on to win the game 67-41. With the win the Spartans improved to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the MCAC.
Sabrina Fronning and Jayna Gronewold provided the offensive fireworks. Fronning put up 25 points while collecting 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Gronewald added 20 points and 4 steals. Emily Larson lead the team in rebounds with 7. She also led the team with 9 assists as well. Morgan Evavold had double digit rebounds with 11.
Head Coach Jodi Holleman had this to say about the game. "Our captains Gronewald & Fronning really stepped it up tonight. They were excellent leaders on the court. I was really happy with Larson as she played her best game of the season. My favorite state was as a team we had 20 assists and 56 rebounds. The girls played with intensity and are coming together as a team."
The Spartan women will have some time off before they play again. The Spartans will play next on Saturday, February 27th as they travel to take on Rochester Community College in Rochester, MN. Opening tip is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
