The M State Lady Spartans hosted Western Technical College on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls in their final home game of the season. The visitors posted a 59-53 victory, putting M State at 10-14 overall and 4-7 against MCAC Southern Division teams.
Western Tech shot 44.6% (25-56) from the field and 31.3% (5-16) from beyond the arc. Lexi Schmidtknecht came off the bench to lead them with 12 points. Kerrigan Lyga added 10 points and 6 rebounds and Rylee Gabel had 6 points and 7 boards.
M State held a 36-28 edge on the boards, grabbing 16 offensive rebounds, however, the lady Spartans struggled with their shooting, hitting only a third (19-57) of their field goal attempts and a paltry 2-of-17 (11.8%) from 3-point range.
Leaders for M State were Megan Dreger (13 points, 6 rebounds), Taylin Schleicher (11 points, 4 rebounds), Kassandra Algarate (9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals) and Olivia Winfrey (7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists). Alexa Mortenson chased down a team high 11 boards.
"We gave it everything we had for our final home game, but weren't able to get the easy baskets to fall. We did an outstanding job on the rebounds, pulling down 16 offensive. I'm proud of the way these girls played and especially proud of our sophomore class. Kassandra, Taylin and Ashlee will be missed as they graduate this spring and head on to their next college to complete their degrees." said Coach Hendrickson
On Monday night the Lady Spartans will close out their season with a makeup game at Rochester at 5:30.
