The M State Women's Basketball team hit 47% (29-62) of their field goal attempts and made 21-of-36 free throws in their 83-65 win over St. Cloud Community and Technical College on Wednesday night in Fergus Falls. The lady Spartans forced 27 turnovers by the Cyclones.
Sydney Hovland poured in 24 points to pace four players in double figures for the home team. Megan Dreger added 16 points and 4 assists, Olivia Winfrey had 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and Alexa Mortenson logged a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 3 assists and 3 steals.
"We did a much better job today taking care of the ball and we were able to force some turnovers for easy points," said Head Coach Janice Hendrickson of the lady Spartans. "We relied heavily on defensive pressure down the stretch to finish the game. I was happy with our ability to get to the free throw line and our balanced contributions. We have some things to work on before facing a solid Rochester team on Saturday at home."
Shania Nahring. Rachel Vreeland and Kiara Coops had 11 points each and Abbie Wuertz was also in double digits with ten points. The Cyclones made 44% (25-57) of their field goal attempts, including 8-of-21 (38%) from 3-point range.
M State is now 8-9 on the season and 2-2 against MCAC Southern Division teams. They will host Rochester on Saturday at 1:00pm.
