Kaylee Porisch poured in 32 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Anoka-Ramsey to a 77-64 win over the lady Spartans on Wednesday night in Coon Rapids. The Golden Rams shot 41.5% (27-65) from the field and made 17-of-19 free throws.
Maegan Mckernon had 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, and Amanda Lindsey finished with 17 points, making all six of her free throws, 5 assists and 4 steals.
After a first quarter that ended up 14-14, Anoka-Ramsey outscored the lady Spartans 27-15 in the second quarter to take a 41-29 halftime lead. M State cut the margin to 53-49 with a 20-12 third quarer, however, the Golden Rams finished strong with a 24-15 fourth quarter advantage.
M State was led by Samantha Lupkes with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Taylin Schleicher had 15 points and 6 boards, and Macky Warne contributed 11 points, 3 assists and 4 rebounds. Kassandra Algarate had a team high 5 assists, grabbed 7 rebounds and scored 7 points, and Claire Mathiesen had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. The lady Spartans shot 38.7% (24-62) from the floor and made 12-of-14 free throws. They held a 37-33 edge on the boards.
"We started the game unfocused and Anoka-Ramsey took advantage of it," said M State Head Coach Janice Hendrickson. "We had small spurts of good basketball, but we weren't able to overcome our poor start. We need to put this game behind us and prepare for Western Tech on Saturday because that is a must win for us."
