In the final doubleheader of the season, the M State Fergus Falls Lady Spartans earned the home sweep against the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellow Jackets. In game one, sophomore Tarryn Justesen recorded 9 strikeouts in a complete game 2-0 win. Game two found the Lady Spartans trailing 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning before rallying to win 15-10.
There wasn't much offense for either team in game one, but the Lady Spartans were able to give Justesen enough to win the game. Sam Lupkes walked and came around to score in the second inning for a 1-0 Lady Spartan lead. The Lady Spartans added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a walk to Lindsey Dierks. She stole second and scored on a hit by Katie Merrick. That's all Justesen needed and the Lady Spartans won the game 2-0.
Game two was a different story. RCTC jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, but Taylor Kugler legged out a hustling double and Sid Imsande launched a long homerun to left center to tie the score.
In the top of the fourth, the Lady Spartans defense fell apart, allowing RCTC to score six runs and take an 8-2 lead. The Lady Spartans began to cut into the lead in their half of the fourth. Two out singles by Kugler and Imsande set Sam Lupkes up for a two run single to make the score 8-4. Lady Spartan Macky Warne and the Lady Spartan defense settled down getting the offense back in the dugout and swinging.
The Lady Spartans used some walks and some clutch hitting to score six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Cailey Bryant had an RBI double, Imsande and Warne each had drove in runs and Lupkes delivered a big two out, two run single. Before the inning ended, the Lady Spartans had a 10-8 lead.
They added five more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Imsande had another run scoring hit and with bases loaded Warne cleared them with a three run triple.
RCTC did score one run in the top of the seventh but Warne finished strong striking out the final two RCTC batters to get the 15-10 win.
That completes the Lady Spartans very short season. On the year they ended 5-12 and 3-5 in the division.
