The M State Lady Spartan softball team saw their six game winning streak come to an end as they dropped a pair of games to the nationally ranked St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclones. The Lady Spartans saw a lead slip away in game one and lost 6-5. In game two their offense never got on track and the Lady Spartans lost that game 8-1.
"We had a great opportunity to beat a very good team in game one but we made to many little mistakes" commented head coach Steve King. "In game two we just didn't put any great scoring threats together and it got away from us. We are good enough to win, but today they took advantage of our mistakes and took two."
In game one, the Cyclones grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a leadoff homerun in the first and added another run in the second for a 2-0 lead. Lindsey Dierks took care of that with one swing of the bat as she blasted a two run homerun to center field to tie the game. The Lady Spartans scored three more runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a bases loaded double by Sydney Imsande that scored two and the Lady Spartans had a 5-2 lead.
Some rare fielding mistakes by the Lady Spartans and a couple of big hits by the Cyclones allowed them to score four runs in the top of the fourth for a 6-5 lead. Both teams had scoring chances late in the game but neither team could push a run across and the game ended with a final score of 6-5.
Tarryn Justesen pitched well but took the loss for the Lady Spartans.
In game two the Cyclones scored four runs in the third inning and kept adding on for an 8-1 win. The offense for the Lady Spartans struggled to get anything going. Lady Spartan pitcher Doranna Blasyck went the distance but took the loss.
The Lady Spartans fall to 12-4 overall and 6-4 in the division. They travel to Worthington for two divisional games against Minnesota West Community and Technical College on Friday.
