Blasyck Hurls Perfect Game, Lady Spartans Sweep
Lady Spartan sophomore Doranna Blasyck threw a five inning perfect game and the Lady Spartans used the long ball to complete a road sweep of Riverland College in Austin Friday. The Lady Spartans won game one 7-5 and Blasyck and the Lady Spartans dominated in game two for a 12-0 win.
"Road sweeps are hard to come by and very important in this league" commented Lady Spartan head coach Steve King. "We played well in all phases of the game. This is a fun team to coach. They are willing to practice hard and work on the little things that are winning us some close games. Doranna was lights out in game two, but we made all the plays behind her and were aggressive on the base paths. We scored 12 runs on the day with two outs in the inning, which really demoralizes the other team. Makes the trip home from Austin a little more enjoyable."
Lydia Klemetson started the day for the Lady Spartans with a leadoff homerun in the top of the first and Lindsey Dierks added a two run double in the same inning to give the Lady Spartans a quick 4-0 lead. They added to that lead in the second on a single and stolen base by Jileen Tenneson and a double by Blasyck for a 5-0 Lady Spartan lead.
The Lady Spartans added two more runs in the top of the third on a two run homerun by Dierks to take a 7-0 lead. Riverland added a run in the third and two more in the sixth to make the score 7-3 heading to the seventh. Lady Spartan pitcher Tarryn Justesen may not have been her sharpest today, but she battled through it. Riverland scored two more in the bottom of the seventh before Justesen was able to finish her complete game and get the final out for the victory. She is now 7-2 on the season.
The Lady Spartans ambushed Riverland in the first three innings of game two scoring 12 runs, 8 with two outs, highlighted by another Dierks RBI hit and two out, two run homeruns by Amber Boese in the second and Blasyck in the third for a 12-0 lead. Blasyck was perfect and so was the defense as the Lady Spartans cruised to the win.
Blasyck is now 3-0 on the season and the Lady Spartans improve to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in the MCAC Southern Division.
Next up for the Lady Spartans is the #3 ranked team in the nation, St. Cloud Technical and Community College. The game is Tuesday and first pitch is 3:00.
