The M State men's golf team finished second at the University of Minnesota Morris Invite at the Minnewaska Golf Course Friday. The Spartans shot a 314 team score, while the University of Jamestown won the event with a 309. Wyatt Blomseth received medalist honors for the Spartans as he shot a 72 which was good for even-par. John Vall was the next in the 70's as he finished with a 78.
The Spartan women's golf team had two competitiors in the the invite. Lexi Poyzer shot a 110 and Carley Baumann shot a 119.
"As a team, it was an up and down day as we put up some big numbers early, but then settled in much better as the round progressed," Spartans head coach Jason Retzlaff said.
The Spartans men will travel to compete in the two-day, 36-hole St. John's Invite Saturday. Round 1 is Saturday (12:30 p.m.) at Greystone GC in Sauk Centre. Round 2 is Sunday (9 a.m.) at BlackBerry Ridge golf course in Sartell.
The Spartan women will compete at the Valley City Invite Tuesday, Oct. 1.
