Spartan Golf Wins Season Opener Over Southwest Tech

The Spartan men's golf team opened the season yesterday in Austin, MN playing Southwest Tech in a dual meet.  The Spartans emerged victorius beating Southwest Tech 294-317.  Leading the way for the Spartans was Carter Justesen who earned medalist by shooting a 1 under 68.  Trevor Dalbec was runner up with a score of 72.

M State Head Coach Jason Retzlaff was happy with his team's performance. "It was an enjoyable day of golf against another excellent golf program in Southwest Tech.  One of the nines we played at Meadow Green was shorter so that helped scoring significantly, but it was a very unique layout that forced the players to think about where they wanted to place the ball the on some tee shots.  Carter Justesen was outstanding today shooting under par.  He didn't have a lot of stress out there and picked up where he left off after a great season last year.  Trevor Dalbec also played extremely well and is someone who we know has the talent to be a very good player for us.  Overall, it was a nice start and we look forward to building from it at home this weekend against a number of four year colleges."

The Spartans will next compete on Saturday hosting the Spartan Invitational.  It will be a noon shotgun start that will include men and women from Concordia, Valley City State, and U of MN Morris.
