M State Head Coach Jason Retzlaff Quote:
"It was as high a scores for the field as we have seen in a round since we have been out here. The winds were whipping and combine that with the extremely fast greens, it made for difficult conditions. We really struggled on the front nine and outside of Mason couldn't seem to get into the flow of the round. But we really hung in there and played very nicely on the back nine. It was one of those rounds that felt like we weren't playing well, but then when we came in to see the scores, it was obvious that the conditions were tough on everybody. We are very pleased with our position heading into round 2. This is a marathon and not a race and patience is of the utmost importance in a 4 round golf championship."
"Mason Landborg played extremely well today. He had outstanding control of his golf ball and played very consistently. He also had a couple of the best shots of the day including a near ace on the difficult 12th hole. He knows his way around this course and did a great job leading us today."
The Spartans will tee off on Wednesday at 9AM Eastern Time at Chautauqua Golf Club.
