M State Basketball Gets Past Mesabi

The Spartans men's basketball opened the 2020 portion of their schedule Friday night.  They hosted Mesabi Range CTC on the first day of the two day Spartan Classic.  The Spartans came out hot and were able to establish a ten point lead going into halftime.  The second half saw Mesabi go on a couple runs to tighten the game but Spartans were able to close it out with a 83-71 victory.    The win brings the Spartans to 6-6 overall. 

The Spartans shot 49% from the field and 36% from behind the arc.  Alend Alemandi led all Spartans in scoring with 23 points.  Renell Edwards contributed 16 points and Alex Hendricks hit five 3 pointers to add 15 points.  Edwards added six assists to go with his team high eight rebounds. 

The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Spartan Classic.  The Spartans will host Itasca Community College at 3:00 pm.
