"This was a hard fought game in which we had control late in regulation, but did not have the composure to finish," reported Spartan Head Coach Shawn Sorenson. "Giving up offensive rebounds late in the game and not taking care of the ball late was the difference."
Minnesota West led 42-41 at the half, however, M State built a 63-54 lead in the second half. The Bluejays came back strong to tie the game a 84-84 at the end of regulation and outscored the Spartans 10-8 in the extra period.
Chris Tungseth (28 points, 6 rebounds) and Austin Miller (24 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) led five Spartans in double figures. Samuel Priem added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, Aaron Solberg had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and Joel Harris III finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
M State shot 40% (30-75) from the field and made 21-of-27 (77.8%) free throws on the night. They held a slim 45-43 edge on the boards.
Minnesota West was led by Kuol Chol with a double-double (25 points, 15 rebounds). Deshawn Pickford scored 18 points and Jeffery Hudson had 11 rebounds. The Bluejays shot 47% (36-77) from the floor and hit 89% (16-18) from the free throw line.
