Ridgewater scored 13 first quarter points on Saturday and went on to beat M State 20-3 in MCAC football action in Fergus Falls.
The Warriors struck quickly as quarterback Carl Borleis hit Ethan Stark who went 80 yards for the touchdown nineteen seconds into the first quarter. Borleis made it 7-0 with the extra point kick. Ridgewater scored again on their next possession when Mashawn Gordon carried the ball in from 17 yards out.
The Spartans got their only points of the game with 7:57 left in the first half when Jordan Foss booted a 28 yard field goal.
The only scoring of the second half took place in the fourth quarter when Ridgewater's Gordon scored on a 38 yard run. Broady Flach's PAT kick put the final at 26-3.
Ridgewater compiled 496 yards of offense compared to 318 for the Spartans. The Warriors threw for 407 yards as Borleis completed 14-of-27 passes. Gordon caught four balls for 150 yards and ran for 63 yards on 5 carries. Stark had 3 receptions for 114 yards.
Leaders for M State were Marcus Davis (9 completions, 17 attempts, 103 passing yards, 10 carries, 63 rushing yards), and Jabari Howard (4 carries, 49 yards, 3 receptions, 46 yards).
The Spartans will travel to Bottineau, North Dakota for a noon kickoff against Dakota College on Saturday.
