Spartans Open Season With Sweep Of Anoka - Ramsey

The Spartans opened their baseball season at US Bank Stadium on Saturday Night.  Behind a strong pitching performance by sophomore Jake Dykhoff the Spartans took game one 3-0.  The Spartans finished the sweep winning game two 8-3.  

Game 1:

Dykhoff's pitching was the story of game one.  The sophomore pitched a complete game shutout while allowing only one hit.  He struck out 14 batters to earn his first win of the season.

The Spartans broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 3rd when Ben Deiber scored off a wild pitch.  The Spartans were able to add two more runs in the top of the 5th.  Tom Magnusson and Austin Oetter each collected a RBI. 


Game 2:

The Spartans started off hot in game two.  They jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning.  Jake Dykhoff and Ty Karger each tallied a triple in the 1st inning.  Dykhoff added another run by hitting the first home run of the season for the Spartans.  The Spartans extended their lead by adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to cruise to a 8-3 win.

Eric Salvesen picked up the win throwing five scoreless innings.  He gave up two hits and struck out five.  Austin Stanislawski and Tom Magnusson each pitched one inning to finish out the game. 

Jake Dykhoff finished the game 3-4 with a triple and home run and two RBIs.  Justin Dykhoff added a double and two RBIS.  Joe Boutain added two RBI's.  Ty Kargar collected a triple and one RBI.


The Spartans will head to Florida next.  They will play ten games over Spring Break.  First game will be a double header against Lake Michigan College on Saturday, March 7th.  First pitch is scheduled 8:00am.
