The Spartans stayed hot on Sunday and Monday, taking three out of four games against Northland CC. In the first game the Minnesota State Spartans scored four runs in the sixth inning and was led by Austin Oetter, Ryan Schmitz, Tom Magnusson, and Cody Arlt, who all drove in runs leading the Spartans to an 8-2 win. Matt Pietsch came to ballpark and meant business on Sunday; he singled in the first, third, sixth, and seventh inning. The Spartans racked up 13 hits on the day. Pietsch, Oetter, Arlt, and Schmitz each racked up multiple hits.
Jake Dykhoff earned the win for the Minnesota State Spartans. He went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking one. Chandler Gramm threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. The Spartans didn't commit a single error in the field.
Matt Hagen started for the Minnesota State Spartans in game 2. He allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one. The game was tied at two with the Spartans batting in the top of the seventh when an error scored two runs. Chandler Gramm was the winning pitcher. He lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while walking one. Austin Oetter, Ryan Schmitz, Eric Salvesen, and Matt Pietsch each managed one hit to lead the Spartans. Skylar Mursu earned the save when he threw one inning of relief out of the bullpen.
The first game on Monday the Spartans took home a 5-3 victory over Northland CC. The Spartans bats were alive early and scoring in the first inning when Jake Dykhoff drove in the first run. Devin Bush also went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits.
Eric Salvesen pitched the Spartans to victory. He went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out four. Skylar Mursu threw the final inning earning himself another save. Skylar is leading the conference in saves.
M State stayed in it until the end, but Northland CC pulled away late in a 5-3 victory on Monday. The game was tied at two with Northland CC batting in the top of the sixth when an error scored two runs. After Northland CC scored one run in the top of the seventh, the Spartans answered with one of their own. Devin Bush responded with a singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Minnesota State Spartans tallied eight hits on the day. Pietsch led the Spartans with three hits in four at bats, and Austin Oetter collected a couple hits as well.
Mitch Porter started the game; he allowed five hits and four runs over five and a third innings, striking out one and walking one.
