St. Cloud Technical and Community College paid a visit to Fergus Falls on Wednesday and the Cyclones swept a baseball double header from the Spartans, winning 8-3 and 17-2.
With the game tied 2-2 in the sixth, St. Cloud pushed across four runs to take a 6-2 lead. After M State got one run back in the bottom of the inning the Cyclones added a pair of seventh inning runs to pad their lead on the way to the victory. Devin Bush launched a solo home run for the Spartans and Cody Arlt went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead a 10-hit attack by the home team. Matt Pietsch added two hits in four at bats, driving in a run. Ryan Schmitz had the other RBI and Bush scored two of the three runs. Levi Arnold (6IP, 13H, 6ER, 1BB, 3K) took the loss.
An eight-run second inning broke game two wide open as the Cyclones collected 17 runs on 17 hits. The only two runs scored by the Spartans came in the fifth inning with Bush and Arlt each driving in a run. M State managed just three hits in the game with Arlt, Pietsch and Schmitz each contributing a single.
M State will host Northland Community and Technical College in a double header beginning at 1:00pm Saturday and will travel to Willmar to play two games against Ridgewater on Sunday afternoon, also beginning at 1:00pm.
