The M-State Spartans blew out Schenectady County CC 11-1 on Tuesday.
M-State Spartans opened up the game scoring five runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Zach Thunselle, a walk by Jakob Bradsteen, and a walk by Brandon Hill. Jay Zimmerman earned the win his first collegiate win as a Spartan. He pitched four innings, allowing one run, three hits, and striking out one. SCCC surrendered 11 walks, 3 stolen bases, and 7 hits in the game. Aarhus led M-State Spartans with three hits in three at bats.
"It was great to see our players come back from a tough loss yesterday and get a big win for us," said Coach Hughes after the 11-1 victory. "It's a great sign when your team shows this kind of toughness early in the season. It helps that when you have a guy like Jay (Zimmerman) and Jarrett (Werner) up on the mound commanding the zone and keep the batters off balance. Jay is new to us this year and Jarrett is a freshman but both of them are going to be a big part of our team going forward."
