M-State Spartans defeated Vermillion Community College 10-1 thanks to a strong start. The Spartans scored in the first inning on a fielder's choice by Travis Krueger and a two run single by Ryan Aarhus. In the second they struck again on an error in the second inning.
Tyler Anderson earned the win for the Spartans. He threw seven innings, allowing one run, two hits, and striking out 12. Micah Schlomer took the loss for Vermillion Community College. He pitched two innings, giving up six runs, and three hits.
"I'm really proud of the way we played today. It was our first game outside and I expected us to have some rust but we were hitting the ball pretty well. The things we had been working on all winter in the gym were showing up on the field and that is what you love to see from your players. We still need to tighten up our defense but today we will be happy with a win," says Coach Hughes.
